Greyhound Memorial
Day in Belgium – 29th July
Following the
discovery in 2002 in Alabama of a mass grave of shot ex-racing
greyhounds sent from Florida for disposal, greyhound rescue
groups in many countries have dedicated this July weekend
to the memory of these and all greyhounds and galgos everywhere
who have suffered when their usefulness is over.
The majority of the
galgos we are able to help are homed by Josephine and her group
Greyhounds Rescue Belgium and last Sunday hundreds of GRB's adopters and their dogs
come together for a walk near the beach. They received a
blessing from the priest, and then, as in previous years, hundreds
of tagged blue balloons were released in memory of those
thousands of greyhounds whom we have been, and will sadly
be unable to reach.
