GIN Sponsored Walk - May 2007 - Hengistbury Head

Once again Sue, at the GIN shop in Bournemouth , organized a very successful sponsored walk at Hengistbury Head.  This walk has become an annual event down in Dorset and seems to get more popular each year.  The weather was lovely as you can see from the photographs taken by Amanda and Clive, and a few of the dogs decided to get their paws wet !

Description

This walk, approximately 4 ¼  miles long, should take around 2 hours at a leisurely pace.  It covers a diverse area of woodland and some open heath with plenty of  water stops for the dogs to enjoy.  There are footbridges over the streams en route, but it could be  muddy in a couple of places – if we have had heavy rainfall. Please wear appropriate footwear.

Please maintain control of your dog at all times, and respect other users of the forest, especially ponies and horse riders.

Directions

Take the A31 from Ringwood towards Southampton . After about 8 miles, where the road has trees between the carriageways, turn Left at the Stoney Cross turning, signposted Fritham + Boldrewood.  Next Left, signpost Linwood + Boldrewood, along a dead straight road that was the old runway. When there is a bend to the left,  turn Right down a track to the car park.

(N.B. To return to Ringwood you must turn Right on way out; follow signs for Linwood, past the High Corner and Red Shoot inns to Moyles Court and back onto the Fordingbrige road.)

There should be plenty of space but it may well be busy with other dog walkers and family groups, and there may be ducks and geese on the pond, so please take care entering and leaving the car park.

A donation of £2.00 per person for Greyhounds in Need can be payable to Sue North before the start of the walk.

All dogs must be kept under the control and supervision of their owners. All dogs attend this event at their owner's risk and while every care will be taken, Greyhounds in Need accepts no responsibility for loss, damage or injury however caused to dogs, persons or property while at this event.
