Getting together in the Car Park

Summer Gathering – 8th July 2007

After all the rain in the days prior to the picnic at Virginia Water we were very lucky  that the day itself was fine, sunny and not too hot – just right for humans and hounds. We gathered together in the car park at the entrance to the park at about 11 am and it is always nice to see old friends and those who had come for the first time to show off their dogs. We set off about 30 minutes later on our walk alongside the lake, which was looking lovely in the sunshine. There were many people in the park out for a Sunday walk with children and/or dogs and there was a look of amazement on some faces when noticing such a large gathering of greyhounds being led along.

It was good to see Debbie Buxcey with her friends, both two and four legged. One special visitor was York, one of the hounds brought over by GIN on the closure of the Rome track, who was celebrating his thirteenth birthday and looking very good.

We settled down under some trees which provided some nice shade for the dogs where picnics were eaten to the sound of much happy chatter with everyone comparing notes on their hounds’ progress.

The proceedings continued to a satisfactory end and weary hounds and owners took a slow walk back to the car park, said their farewells and made their way home. We are now looking forward to next year.
