News from the Bournemouth Shop……

Bournemouth Shop News - Oct 2011

The shop has been very busy this summer. We are constantly surprised and very pleased with the amount of goods donated – it certainly keeps us all busy and you never know what you might find!

We had a stall again this year at the Winton Carnival which raised over £400 and we were fortunate for the third year running to have a lovely sunny day for this event. I am very grateful to our volunteers who kindly gave up their time to make the day so successful. We also carried out Street Collections in Fordingbridge, Ringwood and Dorchester this summer although we were a little short of helpers.

Supermarket collections have become increasingly popular, are easy to arrange and are well supported by the public. Would you be interested in organising one at your local supermarket with a few friends/relatives and your dogs? I would be happy to offer any help or advice if needed.

Please keep sending in your used postage stamps, any silver and gold jewellery (even if broken), used ink cartridges and mobile phones. These all help to bring in vital funds for Greyhounds in Need.

Let’s hope there are more sunny days to come before winter sets in; happy fundraising.

Sue

Great British Greyhound Walk Dorset 2010

Bournemouth Shop News - Apr 2011

We were lucky to be chosen by our local Waitrose as one of their charities for the month of February and Greyhounds in Need will be receiving a cheque for £319 in the next few weeks.

Please keep sending us British and foreign stamps; we have made several hundred pounds for GIN over the last few months from sorting and selling these in special packs on the internet.

Many thanks to our supporters who have sent in their unwanted jewellery; some items have been really exquisite and most interesting.

If you can come along and help at any of our events we would be pleased to hear from you. Don’t forget the Great British Greyhound Walk on 26th June.

The Celebration Fair in June, marking 10 years of successful fundraising at the GIN shop in Bournemouth , went very well. Sue and Penny have also been busy organising collections locally. They always need more helpers so please give Sue a ring on 01202 513000 if you can help in any way.

If you have any used postage stamps please send them to the shop  – Penny and Aileen sort these out and raise funds for GIN. Sue would also be pleased to receive any unwanted jewellery (including broken gold items). Recently she and Penny were able to raise over £200 from items donated to the shop.

A special thank you here to Marion and her son who regularly send parcels to us in Wraysbury with items we can sell at our events or at the shops.   We rarely have a day without a parcel being delivered to us in Wraysbury and Sue also receives coats from supporters for the greyhounds and   galgos—some photos here, taken by Saskia, showing the galgos at the Villamartin refuge modelling coats Sue sent last month.

Simon (and Ace!)

Salisbury to Winchester Great Clarendon Marathon - 3rd October

“Hello all, My name is Simon. Four months ago Greyhounds in Need helped me rescue my greyhound. Ace. Ace has settled in wonderfully to pet life after being a successful racer himself. I can’t imagine life without him now. Retirement has meant a cosy life on our sofa for Ace, and I’m hoping to raise as much money as possible to help more ex-racers like him, by running in the Great Clarendon Marathon; 26 miles from Salisbury to Winchester .

Please donate as much as you can.

Thank you.

Simon (and Ace!)"

Hi Everyone

This year is a very special one for us in Bournemouth ; we are celebrating 10 years of successful fundraising through the shop and by holding various events, and have found lovely homes for numerous needy dogs along the way. During this time I have met some wonderful people and gained a deep insight into the sinister world of greyhound racing. Nothing could ever have prepared me for this difficult journey !

Thankfully more and more people are becoming aware of what wonderful pets greyhounds and lurchers make. They, too, have been smitten by their gentle and laid back temperament. Greyhounds are truly very special dogs.

A very busy summer is looming ahead with many events already organised including street and store collections, our annual sponsored walk and, the highlight of this year, our 10-year Celebration Fair and BBQ at the Greyhounds in Need Shop, Bournemouth.

We will need lots of help to make these events successful so please let me hear from you very soon!

THE GALGOS/GREYHOUNDS NEED YOUR  SUPPORT !

Regards,

     Sue
