News from the Bournemouth Shop
Hello from sunny Bournemouth and
thanks to all of you who have helped with our fundraising efforts so far this
year
.but we need more helpers! It seems that volunteers like to work in a
charity shop but are more hesitant to get out on the streets! The public are
very interested in our work with the greyhounds/galgos and very much enjoy
meeting our dogs so please dont be shy and offer your help with our collec-
tions. I will also be organising some in-store collections soon at Sainsburys,
Asda, etc., which hopefully will appeal to some of you. Please ring me at the
shop for further details.01202 513000.
Peter Crawley together with several friends very kindly organised two more
street collections in Ringwood and Fordingbridge in April/ May and raised more
than £400. The Dorchester collection on 3rd June produced £258.53 even
though we were very short of collectors
please could you help with the next
one on Wednesday 28 October?
Our annual sponsored walk at Hengistbury Head was well supported again this
year by both walkers and their four-legged friends and a total of £959.28 was
raised only slightly down on last year which is a pleasant surprise in these
difficult times. The event of the year must be our stall at Winton Carnival in
June which was so successful we ran out of prizes for our fundraising
favourite, The Mug Game. We raised £200 from this and another £217.37
from bric-a-brac and donations. (The nearby ice-cream stall took £1200 what
a great day!)
Over the last few months I have successfully homed several lurchers and an
elderly greyhound all went to wonderful homes. We are now looking for a
special home for Spray, an 18month old, male lurcher with only 3 legs.
Unfortunately he was knocked down by a car and the vet was unable to save his
leg. Please get in touch if you would like to offer Spray a loving home.
We are hoping soon to stock larger items of furniture in our shop but need a
man with a van to collect/deliver these items. If you can help please let me
know on 01202 513000 or e-mail me -greyhoundlady@waitrose.com
Finally, from 1 October the sponsorship scheme will be run from Head Office in
Wraysbury. Penny and I have very much enjoyed running the scheme since its
inception in the year 2000 and many thanks to all of you who have so kindly
sponsored our dogs over the years. Sue
